Biblical hope is a confident expectation in the goodness, control and Word of God. We can only have confident expectation in someone or something that does not change. James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” Hebrews 13:8 reminds us of the dependability of Christ, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Paul understood this and declared that Jesus was not just a giver of hope, but Jesus Himself was hope. “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;” (1 Timothy 1:1) No matter what we face in life personally, as a family, as a church family or as a nation, Jesus is hope. Today we will see how that Jesus is hope in a world filled with darkness.
