Jesus had led His disciples to the spiritual understanding that He was the Christ, promised to build His church, declared His own sacrifice and invited His disciples to follow Him in sacrifice. Eight days later, Jesus took three of His disciples up into a mountain for prayer. While they were there and Jesus gave Himself to earnest prayer, Jesus was changed. He had a conversation with two notable Old Testament saints. This experience was so powerful, that one of the disciples asked if they could permanently remain there. God responded with an exhortation that we still do well to hear and practice.
