Gideon lived in the time period in Israel’s history of Judges. Judges were God called deliverers. When Israel would sin and worship other gods, God would all them to fall into the bondage and captivity of their enemies. As His people would humble themselves, turn from their wicked ways and seek the face of God, God would send a judge or deliverer. Gideon was the sixth Judge of Israel and would deliver them out of bondage to the Midianites. However, the victory that Gideon experienced would not be one that he could claim, all the glory belonged to God. Gideon’s life and the way that God used him reminds us that conquering is really not about us, but all about God.
