Like you, Paul struggles with his flesh daily yet has a burning desire for victory. As he realized that key to his struggle was the victory Christ already won over sin, death and hell, his heart ignited with the glorious reality that he faced no condemnation before God because he was in Christ. The indwelling Spirit of Christ empowered him to personally experience Christ’s victory over his flesh. The Spirit assured Paul of his position as a child of God and that he could go to his Father with all of his burdens, struggles and needs. The Spirit would even intercede for him when he is incapable of expressing the desire of his hearts. All of this was true because Jesus came and fully conquered sin, death and hell for him. In Christ, Paul was more than a conqueror. What Paul discovered is our reality too!
It is in this context that Paul declares we know something!
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
