What Makes Us Better – Josiah Kagin

King Solomon was a man who had experienced all that life had to offer. In all of his experiences, he discovered so much disappointment at the emptiness and frustration of life. As the richest, most powerful and most envied man on earth in his day, described life as completely empty and intensely frustrating.

In Ecclesiastes, we find Solomon viewing his life from the vantage point of old age and mortality. As he concluded chapter six, he asked himself how man can be better amid all the emptiness of life. How can man know what is good in this life?
At this point, Solomon pens sound advice for life under the sun. Ultimately he concludes with, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
